Non trovo le parole per esprimere la mia gratitudine verso l’IAE per il conferimento del titolo di Fellow, che non so nemmeno se merito davvero. Questo dubbio su me stesso affiora spesso ogni volta che mi viene conferito un riconoscimento. Tuttavia, considero questa una rara opportunità per entrare in contatto con l’IAE. Conosco il Dott. Anand da molto tempo; la nostra collaborazione dura da decenni, sin da quando mi invitò a Bathinda, e la nostra amicizia è cresciuta nel tempo. Ci lega un rapporto fondato sulle idee che due poeti condividono. Il Dott. Anand è un poeta straordinario. Io ho pubblicato un solo libro di poesie, ma ammiro profondamente il Dott. Anand. Ho letto i suoi versi: è un vero poeta, come mi piace definirlo, un poeta nell’anima.

È nato per scrivere poesia — e non mi riferisco soltanto alla sua immensa produzione di 180 libri, che è sorprendente.

Ho cercato su Google chi abbia scritto il maggior numero di libri. Osho Rajneesh ne ha firmati quasi 600, il che costituisce forse un primato, ma non può esserne considerato l’autore in senso stretto, poiché la maggior parte di essi è stata trascritta da discorsi registrati: lui era essenzialmente un oratore. Comunque, il tempo chiarirà chi abbia effettivamente scritto il maggior numero di libri al mondo.

Mi sento sinceramente sopraffatto, e talvolta mi chiedo come sia possibile che una sola persona, che ha ricoperto così tanti ruoli nella vita, possa produrre un’opera creativa così vasta. La risposta è che non solo è nato poeta, ma il Prof. Anand respira poesia, vive di poesia e, se mi permettete, forse sogna anche poesia. La poesia non è soltanto la sua passione, ma anche la sua vocazione e — lasciatemi dire — la sua evocazione. Riesce a fondere in modo armonioso vocazione ed evocazione.

Ho sfogliato alcune delle sue opere epiche e posso affermare che il Dott. Anand è un poeta-filosofo. Ritengo anche che sia stata una scelta davvero coraggiosa da parte sua scrivere, e scrivere con tale dedizione, in un’epoca in cui la poesia non è più così popolare come altre forme di letteratura. Purtroppo, viviamo in tempi profondamente antipatetici alla poesia. La poesia richiede profondità, intensità e una forma particolare di immaginazione da parte del lettore. Eppure, siamo diventati schiavi della tecnologia e abbiamo perso la capacità di pensare in profondità, di riflettere con passione sui molteplici strati della nostra mente.

Il Dott. Anand non dovrebbe sentirsi deluso se la sua poesia non riceve l’attenzione che merita. Il motivo principale potrebbe essere che egli scrive poesia in un’epoca in cui il pubblico dei lettori è sempre meno poetico. Inoltre, le sue preoccupazioni non riguardano tematiche banali, ma questioni universali. È una sorta di poeta globale, un umanista nel senso più profondo del termine. Le sue preoccupazioni sono molto vicine alla filosofia dell’umanesimo. Affronta questioni con cui l’umanità si confronta da sempre: la natura del male, la sofferenza, il conflitto fondamentale tra bene e male, se l’uomo possa davvero raggiungere la redenzione, se possa diventare il proprio Gesù Cristo o se abbia bisogno di qualcun altro che lo redima. Tali questioni ci si presentano nella sua poesia. È nella natura perenne della sua poesia che risiede la sua forza di poeta.

Forse la gente non risponde alla sua poesia come dovrebbe, ma il problema risiede nella loro incapacità di confrontarsi con questioni di natura esistenziale. Il suo successo come poeta, e il successo delle sue opere epiche, risiedono proprio nel fatto che ci spinge a confrontarci con le domande più profonde della vita e dell’esistenza. La sua opera è così vasta — poesia dopo poesia, epica dopo epica — che ci si chiede da dove cominciare e dove finire, e la discussione potrebbe continuare a lungo.

Accetto con gratitudine questo titolo di Fellow che mi è stato conferito.
Sono grato a tutti e profondamente onorato da questo gesto generoso. Esprimo la mia più sentita gratitudine a tutti i membri dell’ufficio di presidenza. È un’esperienza estremamente toccante, che mi darà forza e coraggio per continuare il piccolo lavoro che ho svolto negli anni.

Nato ad Amritsar, provengo da una famiglia di imprenditori. Ma mi sono sempre opposto con fermezza all’idea di seguire le orme di mio padre nel mondo degli affari, perché desideravo diventare un insegnante — una professione in cui si ha molto da scegliere, e ancor più da offrire. Fin dall’inizio, dunque, ho avuto un senso innato dell’etica. Credo che il merito vada a tutti i membri dell’IAE, che stanno cercando di creare una sorta di ecosistema in cui l’imperativo etico possa essere diffuso, reso popolare e condiviso. Ma soprattutto, essi parlano di etica con un raro grado di convinzione e passione. Viviamo in tempi poco poetici, in un’epoca in cui l’etica non è più una preoccupazione della coscienza collettiva. È un grande servizio all’umanità quello che questa Accademia sta offrendo, mantenendo viva l’idea e il dibattito sull’etica. E questo, di per sé, è un compito straordinario: mantenere viva la riflessione sugli imperativi etici, così necessaria per la sopravvivenza del genere umano.

PUBBLICATO IL LAVORO EPICO DEL DR. J.S. ANAND, EPICACIA

Epicacia, una raccolta di 12 poemi epici del Dott. Jernail Singh Anand, già preside del DAV College e autore di oltre 180 libri, è stata presentata ieri dal Dott. Rana Nayar, che ha descritto il Dott. Anand come un “sintetizzatore e un unificatore”, il cui impegno costante è quello di fondere insieme tradizioni disparate ed elementi poetici e degli imperativi etici”. Secondo il Dott. Nayar, “Mito e storia, passato e presente, lirismo ed epica, poetico e drammatico, bene e male si fondono sempre per animare il paesaggio poetico di Anand. Anand sa certamente come dominare l’universo poetico che solo lui può creare e sostenere”.

Il Dott. Rana Nayar ha parlato durante una cerimonia organizzata dall’Accademia Internazionale di Etica, nel corso della quale gli è stato conferito il titolo di Fellow in riconoscimento del suo impegno verso la letteratura e i valori umani.

Il Dott. Anand ha dedicato questa sua opera alla Serbia e alla poetessa serbo-americana Dott.ssa Maja Herman Sekulic, poiché è stata proprio l’Associazione degli Scrittori Serbi a nominarlo Membro Onorario, a conferirgli il Premio Charter of Morava e a incidere il suo nome sulla Roccia dei Poeti in Serbia.

La cerimonia, moderata da Rupa Rao, è stata presieduta da S. Himmat Singh, IPS, ex Direttore Generale della Polizia dell’Uttar Pradesh. Altri eminenti studiosi che hanno reso omaggio al Dott. Rana Nayar e al Dott. Anand sono stati: Dott. Swaraj Raj (Professore Emerito), Dott. Basudeb Chakraborti, Dott. Lalit Mohan Sharma, Prof.ssa Seema Jain e Dott.ssa Manju Chouhan.

ADDRESS BY DR RANA NAYAR

I don’t have words to express my gratitude to IAE for the Award of Fellowship which I don’t know I deserve or not. Such self-doubt often comes in my way whenever some award is conferred on me. However, I consider it a rare opportunity to be connected with IAE. I have known Dr. Anand for a long time, our association has been decades long since he invited me to Bathinda, and our friendship has grown over the years.  We possess a bond based on ideas which two poets share. Dr Anand is a wonderful poet.  I have only one book of poetry. But I admire Dr. Anand. I have read his verses. He is a true poet, as I would like to call, a poet at heart. He was born to create poetry, I am not only talking about his massive output  of 180 books which is astounding. On google, I tried to  see who has written maximum no of books. Osho Rajnish has authored almost 600 books which is probably a record of sorts, but he cannot be an author of these books because most of them are recited and recorded and he was only a speaker. Anyway, time would settle this question who has written the maximum number of books in the world.

I actually feel overwhelmed and I wonder sometimes how can any individual who has played different roles in life, can produce so much of creative work, the answer is that not only he was born to be a poet, but Prof Anand breathe poetry, he  lives poetry,  and if your allow me to say, he probably dreams poetry too. Poetry is not only his passion, it is his  vocation also, and his evocation too, and he blends his vocation and evocation in a beautiful way.

I have looked through some of his epics,  I can say Dr Anand is a poet philosopher. I also feel that it is really a bold decision on the part of Prof. Anand to write and write with such commitment, that too in an age in which, poetry is actually not as popular as some other forms of literature are. Unfortunately,  we are living in times which are highly unpoetic. Poetry demands depth and intensity and a different kind of imagination from the reader, but somehow, we have become slaves to technology, and we have lost the capability to think deeply  and think passionately about the multiple layers of our minds.

Dr.Anand should not feel that the proper response is not coming to his poetry. The major reason can be that he is writing poetry in an age in which the  reading public is becoming highly unpoetic. Secondly,  his concerns are not the mundane issues. Rather, he is concerned more with universal issues. He is a kind of global poet, a humanist to the core. His concerns are very close to the philosophy of humanism. He takes up issues people are wrestling with: like the nature of evil, nature of suffering, basic conflict between good and evil, whether man can actually seek deliverance, can he become his own Jesus Christ or he needs someone else to redeem him. Such concerns confront us in his poetry. It is  in the perennial nature of his poetry where his strength as a poet lies.  May be people do not respond to his poetry as they ought to, but the problem lies in their inability to engage with questions which are existential in nature. His success as a poet and the success of his epics lies in the fact that he makes us engage with deepest questions of life and existence. So extensive is his work, poem after poem, epic after epic, that one wonder where to begin and where to end, and the discussion may continue over a long time.

I accept this Fellowship that you have conferred on me.

I am grateful to all and humbled by this generous gesture. My deepest  gratitude to all office bearers. It is an extremely humbling experience and will give me strength and courage to keep on doing whatever little work I have been doing over the years.

Born in Amritsar, I come from a business family. But I firmly disagreed with my father to join his business, because I wanted to be a teacher, where you have  a lot to choose and a lot to contribute. Thus, I always had a sense of ethics right from the beginning.  I think credit goes to  all members of IAE who are trying to create kind of an ecosystem where ethical imperative can be disseminate, popularized and circulated but they also talk about ethics with a rare degree of conviction and passion. We are living in times which are unpoetic, we are living in a time when ethics are not a concern of popular consciousness. It is a great service to humanity that this Academy is doing, and keeping the idea and discussion on ethics alive. That is in itself a stupendous job to keep discussion on ethical imperatives going which is so necessary for survival of human race.

DR J.S. ANAND’S EPICAL WORK ‘EPICACIA ‘ RELEASED

‘Epicacia’ a collection of 12-epics by Dr. Jernail Singh Anand, a former Principal of DAV College, and author of 180 plus books, was released yesterday by Dr. Rana Nayar who described Dr. Anand as a “synthesizer and a unifier” whose effort is always to fuse together  disparate traditions, poetic elements and ethical imperatives”.  According to Dr. Nayar, “Myth and history, past and present, lyrical and epical, poetic and dramatic, good and evil always come together to enliven his poetic landscape. Anand certainly knows how to rule over the poetic universe he alone can create and sustain”.

Dr. Rana Nayar was speaking at a function organized by International Academy of Ethics, at which, he was  honoured  with the Award of Fellowship by the Academy in view of his commitment to literature and human values.  Dr. Anand dedicated this work to Serbia and Serbian-US poet Dr. Maja Herman Sekulic,  as it was the Serbian Writers Association which made him an Honorary Member, and then, conferred on him the Charter of Morava Award, and his name was engraved on the Poets’ Rock in Serbia.

The function, moderated by Rupa Rao, was presided over by S. Himmat Singh, IPS, former DGP UP. The other eminent scholars who felicitated Dr. Rana Nayar and Dr. Anand included Dr. Swaraj Raj, Prof. Emeritus, Dr. Basudeb Chakraborti, Dr. Lalit Mohan Sharma, Prof. Seema Jain and Dr. Manju Chouhan.
