Hellenic Interview Questions – Kadrolsha Ona Carole
Dimitrios Kannavos . You are active both as an actress and a journalist. How have these two
professional worlds influenced each other in your career?
Kadrolsha Ona Carole . My work as an actress and my work as a journalist have always fed each other in surprising and meaningful ways. Acting taught me how to inhabit someone else’s perspective, to listen deeply, and to understand the emotional truth behind a story. Those same skills make me a more empathetic and perceptive journalist. I’m not just gathering facts; I’m paying attention to the human experience behind them.
At the same time, journalism has grounded my acting. Reporting forces you to observe the world with clarity and curiosity. It sharpens your sense of detail, your awareness of real people’s struggles and triumphs, and your responsibility to represent them honestly. That awareness has made my performances more nuanced and authentic.
Balancing both careers has given me a fuller creative toolkit. One profession strengthens my voice; the other expands my understanding. Together, they’ve shaped not just my career, but the way I move through the world.
Dimitrios Kannavos . What inspired you to pursue a path that combines storytelling, media,
and the performing arts?
Kadrolsha Ona Carole . I’ve always been drawn to the power of stories—how they can shift perspectives, spark emotion, and connect people who might never meet in real life. That fascination naturally pulled me toward spaces where storytelling is at the center. Journalism gave me the tools to explore real experiences and understand the world with depth and curiosity. Acting, on the other hand, allowed me to step inside those experiences and express them in a more visceral, human way.
What inspired me to combine these paths was the realization that storytelling isn’t limited to one medium. Whether I’m writing, interviewing, or performing, I’m ultimately trying to illuminate something true—about people, about culture, about the moment we’re living in. Each discipline strengthens the other, and together they give me a fuller, more dynamic way to communicate. It’s that blend of creativity, empathy, and truth-seeking that keeps me inspired.
Dimitrios Kannavos . In your view, what role can media and culture play in bringing people
and societies closer together internationally?
Kadrolsha Ona Carole . I believe media and culture have an extraordinary ability to bridge divides because they speak a universal language. Stories, films, music, and journalism can cross borders in ways politics or policy often can’t. They allow people to see each other’s realities, values, and dreams with more nuance and empathy. When we share cultural experiences—whether it’s a documentary, a performance, or even a social media narrative—we create points of connection that make distant places feel closer and unfamiliar perspectives feel more human.
Media also plays a crucial role in challenging stereotypes and expanding understanding. When diverse voices are represented authentically, audiences gain a more accurate picture of the world and of each other. That kind of visibility can soften tensions, spark dialogue, and inspire collaboration across cultures.
Ultimately, media and culture act as a bridge. They remind us that while our histories and traditions may differ, our emotions, hopes, and stories often overlap. And it’s in that shared space that international understanding becomes possible.
Dimitrios Kannavos . As Cultural & Media Ambassador for the Hellenic Los Angeles Media
Network, what initiatives or collaborations would you like to support?
Kadrolsha Ona Carole . As Cultural & Media Ambassador for the Hellenic Los Angeles MediaNetwork, I would love to support initiatives that strengthen cultural exchange and elevate contemporary Greek voices on an international stage. One priority is building partnerships between Greek and U.S. media creators—journalists, filmmakers, actors, and digital storytellers—so that we can share resources, amplify each other’s work, and create projects that reflect both cultures.
I’m also interested in developing programs that highlight modern Greek creativity beyond the traditional narratives people already know. Showcasing emerging artists, hosting cross‑cultural panels, and creating media content that explores identity, diaspora, and innovation can help broaden global understanding of Hellenic culture.
Finally, I’d like to support collaborations that bring young people into the conversation—workshops, mentorships, and digital storytelling initiatives that empower the next generation to connect with their heritage while engaging with the world. For me, the goal is to build bridges: between Greece and the U.S., between tradition and modernity, and between communities that can learn so much from one another.
Dimitrios Kannavos . The entertainment industry is rapidly evolving. How do you see the
relationship between traditional journalism and modern media platforms
developing in the coming years?
Kadrolsha Ona Carole . I see the relationship between traditional journalism and modern media platforms becoming increasingly interconnected rather than competitive. Traditional journalism still provides the foundation—rigorous reporting, fact‑checking, and ethical standards that ensure credibility. But modern platforms offer new ways to deliver that work: faster, more visually, and in formats that meet audiences where they already are.
In the coming years, I think we’ll see journalism evolve into a more hybrid model. Long‑form reporting will coexist with short‑form digital storytelling; investigative pieces will be supported by interactive content, podcasts, and social‑first narratives. Instead of choosing one or the other, the industry will lean into collaboration between legacy media and emerging platforms.
What excites me most is the potential for greater accessibility and global reach. Modern media allows stories to travel instantly and engage communities that traditional outlets might not reach on their own. When used responsibly, this blend of old and new can strengthen public understanding, elevate diverse voices, and keep storytelling both credible and dynamic.
Dimitrios Kannavos . Through your professional journey, what moments or experiences have
shaped your perspective on the importance of cultural dialogue?
Kadrolsha Ona Carole . Throughout my career, the moments that shaped my perspective on cultural dialogue were the ones where I found myself navigating between different worlds—whether through journalism, acting, or international collaborations. Interviewing people from diverse backgrounds taught me how much context, history, and identity shape the way we communicate. I learned that listening with genuine curiosity can dissolve barriers faster than any formal introduction.
Working in the performing arts also played a major role. Being part of multicultural casts and creative teams showed me how powerful it is when different cultural viewpoints come together to tell a story. Those experiences made it clear that dialogue isn’t just about exchanging information; it’s about building trust, finding common ground, and allowing space for nuance.
Perhaps the most defining moments came when I saw how audiences responded to culturally rich stories—how a film, an article, or a performance could spark conversations across borders. Those reactions reminded me that cultural dialogue isn’t an abstract ideal; it’s a living process that shapes how we understand one another.
All of these experiences reinforced my belief that cultural dialogue is essential. It deepens empathy, strengthens communities, and opens doors to collaboration that wouldn’t exist otherwise.
Dimitrios Kannavos . What advice would you give to young journalists and artists who wish to
build an international career in media or the creative industries?
Kadrolsha Ona Carole . I would tell young journalists and artists that building an international career starts with curiosity and courage. The world is much bigger than any one industry or country, and the more you expose yourself to different cultures, perspectives, and creative traditions, the stronger your voice becomes. Don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone—travel, collaborate across borders, and seek out stories or artistic influences that challenge the way you see the world.
At the same time, invest in your craft. Whether you’re reporting or performing, credibility and skill are what open doors. Learn the fundamentals, stay adaptable, and embrace new technologies and platforms. The media and creative industries are evolving quickly, and those who thrive are the ones who combine strong foundations with a willingness to innovate.
Finally, build relationships. International careers are often shaped by the people you meet—mentors, collaborators, and communities that support your growth. Be generous, be professional, and stay true to your values. When your work is authentic and your network is global, opportunities have a way of finding you.
Dimitrios Kannavos . How can international networks like the Hellenic Los Angeles Media
Network contribute to strengthening connections between Europe, Greece,
and the global entertainment community?
Kadrolsha Ona Carole . International networks like the Hellenic Los Angeles Media Network have the power to act as cultural connectors—bringing Europe, Greece, and the global entertainment community into closer dialogue. One of the most meaningful contributions they can make is creating platforms where creators, journalists, and industry professionals can collaborate across borders. When Greek and European voices are showcased alongside global talent, it not only elevates their visibility but also enriches the creative landscape with new perspectives.
These networks can also serve as bridges for emerging artists and media professionals who want to work internationally. By facilitating mentorships, co‑productions, cultural events, and industry exchanges, they help open doors that might otherwise remain closed. This kind of support strengthens the creative ecosystem on both sides of the Atlantic.
Finally, they play a crucial role in shaping narratives. By promoting authentic storytelling and highlighting contemporary Greek and European culture—not just the familiar historical imagery—they help global audiences understand the region in a more nuanced way. In a world where media travels instantly, these networks can ensure that cultural representation is diverse, accurate, and inspiring.
In essence, they help build a shared creative space where ideas, talent, and opportunities can move freely, strengthening the bonds between Greece, Europe, and the international entertainment community.
Dimitrios Kannavos . From your experience, what are the biggest challenges and opportunities
facing women in media and the arts today?
Kadrolsha Ona Carole . One of the biggest challenges women face in media and the arts is still visibility—being heard, being taken seriously, and being given equal access to leadership roles and creative opportunities. Despite progress, women often have to work harder to prove their credibility, navigate gender bias, and balance expectations that their male counterparts may never encounter. There’s also the ongoing issue of representation: whose stories get told, who gets to tell them, and how women are portrayed across different platforms.
But alongside these challenges, there are remarkable opportunities. Digital media has opened doors for women to create their own platforms, build global audiences, and bypass traditional gatekeepers. There’s a growing demand for authentic, diverse storytelling, and women are at the forefront of shaping narratives that reflect real experiences and perspectives. International collaboration is also expanding, giving women more space to connect, mentor one another, and build supportive creative communities.
What gives me hope is that women are not only participating in the industry—they’re redefining it. They’re leading production companies, directing major projects, driving investigative journalism, and using their voices to push for equity and accountability. The landscape is far from perfect, but the momentum is strong. With continued advocacy, mentorship, and visibility, the opportunities for women in media and the arts will only grow.
Dimitrios Kannavos . Looking ahead, what projects or goals are you most excited about in the
next stage of your career?
Kadrolsha Ona Carole . Looking ahead, I’m most excited about projects that allow me to merge my passions for storytelling, culture, and global collaboration. I’m working toward developing media projects that highlight cross‑cultural narratives—stories that bring together perspectives from Greece, Europe, and the international creative community. Whether through documentary work, digital storytelling, or performance‑based projects, I want to create content that travels across borders and sparks meaningful dialogue.
I’m also eager to deepen my involvement in initiatives that support emerging talent, especially young women in media and the arts. Mentorship, workshops, and international partnerships are areas where I see real potential to make an impact.
At this stage in my career, my goal is to build work that feels both creatively fulfilling and culturally relevant—projects that connect communities, elevate diverse voices, and continue expanding the space where journalism, performance, and global culture intersect. That’s the direction that energizes me most.
